Realize Band Surgery - the Bad & the Money

The Realize adjustable, gastric band is a wonderful invention. It helps people who can't lose weight on their own see new images in the mirror. Still, there are risks and a cost that go along with having the band surgery. Other people may ignore the downside and harp on all the perks like weight loss and wellness (and it's all true), but life is too short to be sugar coated and nobody likes surprises. You are here for the truth, and here it is - the Bads and the money associated with having a Realize Band surgery.

Have you ever watched those drug commercials on television, where the spokesman is always talking really fast so you really can't hear what he's saying? For example, “try beautisexyiness, and everyone will want you. A few people who have tried beautisexyiness have experienced itching, minor stomach pain which goes away after a brief period, nausea, and in the worse and rare cases – death.”

Oh my goodness!  My husband and I always laugh when we hear the death part, because of the way they say it, “and in worse cases, death.” Death would definitely be a serious complication and the worse case so that's why I wanted to get the whole death thing over first. This is quite serious too because death can occur during and after a Realize Band surgery if complications arise.

But please, don't let that scare you off of the Relative Band. The likelihood of death occurring as a result of Relative Band surgery is so small that it's not even a possibility. Let us not forget that death is a possible but rare combination of any surgery, including something as little as getting a tooth pulled.

That said – let's move on to the complications of the Relative Band procedure that you are more likely to have. These include but are not limited to (a little bit of my television personality there) and are listed in no particular order: shoulder pain, anesthesia related complications such as nausea, stomach pain, bleeding, issues with the band if you don't follow the guidelines, Gastro esophageal reflux disease, and infections. Most of these complications are rare and temporary. Seriously, I would be more worried about the cost of the surgery if you don't any insurance.

This may be hard for some of you to accept; it was very hard for me too. The fact is that Wal-Mart doesn't sell Realize Bands, and if you get one off the Internet, it's probably used and that's just nasty. Realize Bands come with purchase of a Realize Band gastric surgery.

Throw in hospital fees, anesthesiologist fees, pharmacy feels, and of course, your surgeons' fee, and you're looking at a number between $16,000.00 and $25,000.00 for the band. Hopefully, your insurance company will cover all if not most of the fees. It would be to their benefit to have you happy and healthy in the long run.
