Keeping It Real - Farting After Weight Loss Surgery

Of course, I have to keep it real about flatulence or gas if you prefer. I had a problem with strong fumes coming from my butt even before my weight loss surgery. I personally thought it was quite an attractive feature, but my husband would probably disagree with me.

After my gastric surgery, I had even more gas, and an increase in gas (or flatulence) is quite common in patients who have recently had bariatric surgery. This is because of changes in the digestive system, and the fact that high protein, low carb diet regimens often cause gas.

To be honest, like I said, I keep it real about my flatulence, plus people know how I am. I'll just swear it wasn't me or make some comment about it smelling like roses and move on. For other people, the increased flatulence is pretty serious because these people believe they can't do anything without these gastrointestinal displays, and it's downright embarrassing to them.

If you are suffering from flatulence or if someone you love is (my future television, commercial debut) after a weight loss procedure, then there are some things you can do to help reduce the distracting outbursts.

  • Water. It's like a solution for everything, isn't it? Drinking the 64 ounces of water that you should be drinking everyday moves food through the gastrointestinal process so that it doesn't have time to build up so much and produce all that gas.
  • Peppermint oil. This one blew me for a loop, but did you know that peppermint can reduce gas and eliminate gas pains? I had no idea. You really can learn something every day.
  • Beano.Beano is a natural enzyme that acts proactively to prevent you from having gas. It helps your body by making the food you eat less difficult to break-down. As such, the food can quickly move through your system, and you don't have to worry about passing gas because of an uncomfortable build-up.

I'm sure there are other homemade remedies that can help with flatulence, and your doctor will undoubtedly offer his or her own suggestions. Passing gas is natural so you should not let it get you down if you have an increased amount of flatulence after your weight loss surgery.

Be honest about it, for real. You have to admit, that most of the time, when you exhale from your anus it actually feels pretty good to kick that wind outside. Now, if you fart and have diarrhea at the same time, that's a whole different story.
