Eating Cheaply after Weight Loss Surgery

All weight loss surgeries are followed by a lifetime of healthy eating, a nutritional diet that is very high in protein and low in fats and sugar. That's all fine and dandy, but the best foods for you aren't always cheap. Still, you have to eat appropriately or the surgery will have been for nothing.
What you need are a few tips which can help you eat healthier but at a low cost after your bariatric surgery. Wow! It must truly be your lucky day because a few of those tips are listed below.

  1. Cook Your Own Food. Yes, it sucks, and it's time consuming and it interferes with you resting on your rear. But seriously, how long does it take to make a grilled chicken salad? Grilled chicken – sauté it just a little in a dash of olive oil and place it in a bowl of lettuce (which all you had to do was buy it and wash it), and you're done. Not every meal has to be a five course, Gordon Ramsay, inspired meal. You don't need to eat that much anyway right after your weight loss surgery. P.S – It's also cheaper than eating out.
  2. Go for the sales and the coupons. Never forget to use your frequent shopper card and save money on your food items. Stock up on food items you use often. Why buy one can of vegetarian beans for $2.00, when you can get three cans for $4.50? Of course, you don't want to buy vegetarian beans if you don't eat beans, but the message here is pretty clear. Save money whenever and wherever you can.
  3.  Plan your meals ahead of time. That way you can buy what you need on Friday or Saturday and have everything in the house until the next week. Extra trips to the grocery store only burn your gas and your wallet and they also increase the likelihood of making unnecessary impulse buys.
  4. Got an apple addiction? This is a deliciously smart addiction to have. Instead of buying overpriced apples in the grocery store, why not see if any Apple orchards are located nearby and offer “u-pick”? You will get a better deal and some great exercise too.

There are many other things you can do to make eating right less expensive, but this is a good start. Try it and see how much money you can save simply by changing a few shopping habits after your weight loss surgery.
